Project Scope

Techno, is responsible for Preliminary and Final Design Services for Non-Standard Pedestrian Ramp Installations in Brooklyn and Staten Island, NY. These services will be provided to 44 complex pedestrian ramps including 40 intersections and will include preparing Highway Construction plans, Utility/Drainage plans, Lighting/ITS plans, Traffic/MPT plans, and Pavement Marking plans. A preliminary inspection and survey of all 40 intersections must be done prior to the schematic geometric design of all intersections within the project's scope of work. 

Techno field staff has collected, analyzed, and submitted road and site design data, as well as confirmed topographic features while executing an evaluation of street elements (pavements, curbs, sidewalks, pavement markings, etc.), to determine the extent of deterioration and cause of existing defects. Encroachments such as fire alarm posts, hydrants, catch basins, mailboxes, streetlight poles, subway grates, trees, street signs and lights were assessed and ground surface measurements and levels were taken to verify the availability of space. In addition, Techno is performing research on agency records such as NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), the Landmarks Preservation Commission, the NYC Department of Transportation (NYCDOT) Division of Traffic & Street Lighting, the Department of Parks & Recreation (NYCDPR), MTA Metro North (MTA-MN) and various utility agencies within Brooklyn & Staten Island. 

The purpose of this project is to achieve accessibility compliance in conformance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the Architectural Barriers Act (ABA), under the 2011 Proposed Accessibility Guidelines for Pedestrian Facilities in the Public Right-of-Way (PROWAG), adopted by the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT).
