EDC has worked closely with the NYC Department of Transportation, the MTA/Metro-North Railroad, Manhattan Community Board 11, and an experienced consultant team to identify, prioritize, and pursue public and private funding to implement the public realm improvements. Design of the pedestrian safety and plaza improvements began in the Summer of 2014 and continued through the end of the year.

The main transportation related feature of the project is the reconfiguration of the Park Avenue intersections with East 125th Street to provide a “mega-2-crosswalk” that connects the Metro-North Railroad Station and adjacent areas. Additional sidewalk widenings are also planned to create an expanded public plaza space.
