Project Scope
The Port Authority of NY & NJ (PANYNJ) has broken ground on a transformative $19 billion dollar public/private redevelopment project to build a new John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK). The new airport will bring a unified terminal layout and will include two giant new terminals, expansion and modernization of existing terminals, streamlined roadways, world-class facilities, state of the art security, centralized ground transportation options, expanded taxiways, popular local retail and dinning, and provide a stunning display of New York artwork. PANYNJ aims to provide travelers with a top of the line world-class experience that they can enjoy and appreciate and continue utilizing the airport’s terminals for all travel opportunities.
The goal of the JFK Redevelopment Program is to transform JFK into a modern 21st-century airport with major recons. Techno, as a sub consultant to WSP, is providing construction management and inspection services at four major terminal projects:
- The New Terminal 1
The new Terminal 1 will house 23 gates and feature more than 300,000 square feet of dining, retail, lounge, and recreational space. The arrivals and departures hall and new airline gates are scheduled to open in 2026. The project is currently being delivered through a design-build contract approach, with key appointed stakeholders.
- Delta/JFKIAT - Terminal 4
Terminal 4, home to Delta Air Lines and numerous international carriers, will receive ten new aircraft parking positions, 150,000 square feet of new gate space, a new baggage carousel, updated check-in hall, more curb drop-off space, restroom modernizations, new signage, and more. Set to open this summer.
- JMP Terminal 6
The new Terminal 6 will be an international terminal featuring 1.2 million square feet of facilities, and a capacity for up to ten gates. The new terminal 6 is an integral keystone for the Port Authority and aims to provide a redefined guest experience and create new business opportunities by offering construction and other facility related jobs. Groundbreaking is underway, and Phase 1 completion is slated for 2025.
- American Airlines - Terminal 8
Terminal 8 is the largest terminal at JFK and will be redeveloped to add more than 70,000 square feet of additional space that will feature new lounges, an enhanced baggage system, a modernized check-in space, upgraded concessions, five new widebody gates, and four new aircraft parking spots.
