PANYNJ Superstorm Sandy Emergency Projects at Holland Tunnel
The Holland Tunnel is a critical segment of the New York and New Jersey transportation network. It provides not only for the movement of automobile traffic, but commuter access and egress during peak travel times that alleviate the crowding of the Lincoln Tunnel and George Washington Bridge crossings.
Scope:
During Super Storm Sandy, the Holland Tunnel was the hardest hit Hudson River vehicular crossing, where over 408,000 vehicle trips were impacted. Construction management services addressed the Holland Tunnel repair program including:
- Electrical infrastructure/fire suppression systems, repair and protection
- Repair and or replacement of pumping equipment
- Replacement of damaged vent fans that were inundated with sea water
- On-going management of equipment monitoring,
- Toll Plaza post-Sandy mitigation included the protection of electrical and
- communications rooms with metal slacks
- Toll Plaza repair of the plaza drainage outfall system.
- Administration
