NYCEDC Preliminary and Final Design for Queensway Phase 1

Techno was recently awarded a very prestigious Urban Design project to convert abandoned railroad property into a community-friendly urban park. Queensway Phase 1 is also known as Metropolitan Hub or Met Hub and is about a half-mile stretch of a total 3.5-mile stretch of the abandoned railroad property. The project aims to develop a new kind of neighborhood park for cultural events, provide opportunities for local businesses, connect children with nature, and create much-needed new play spaces safe walking and bike routes. 

The project includes walkways, bike paths, elevated walkways, viewing platforms, planting areas, reinforced concrete and stone retaining walls, bio-retention areas, an outdoor classroom and amphitheater, seating benches, a pedestrian bridge (over LIRR), a dog park and general landscape painting for the entire park, lighting for walkways and bicycle paths, including embankment slope protection. 

Techno’s team will perform the environmental review and obtain all necessary permits. Pedestrian bridge design will be coordinated with all stakeholders (NYCDPR, NYCDOT, LIRR, etc.) The project also proposes to use abandoned catenary towers for lighting and display purposes.Preparation of Operation and Maintenance manual, which is important for long-term upkeep of the park.
