NYCEDC 125th Street and Park Avenue Public Realm
Techno is providing Resident Engineering Services for the NYCEDC on this Federally Funded $5 Million project at 125th Street/Harlem Station. EDC has worked closely with the NYC Department of Transportation, the MTA/Metro-North Railroad, Manhattan Community Board 11, and an experienced consultant team to identify, prioritize, and pursue public and private funding to implement the public realm improvements. Preliminary concepts for improvements in the categories of circulation and pedestrian amenities were presented and recommendations were finalized and presented. Design of the pedestrian safety and plaza improvements began in the Summer of 2014 and continued through the end of the year.
The Park Avenue / 125th Street Public Realm Project is expected to improve pedestrian and vehicular traffic conditions around Park Avenue and East 125th Street. The main transportation related feature of the project is the reconfiguration of the Park Avenue intersections with East 125th Street to provide a “mega-2-crosswalk” that connects the Metro-North Railroad Station and adjacent areas. Additional sidewalk widenings are also planned to create an expanded public plaza space. Techno is reviewing the design documents, providing estimates and schedule overview, and advising the client on interagency issues with NYCDOT and Metro North Railroad.
