NYCDEP Wards Island WWTP Interim Plant Upgrade
The project included the Interim Plant Upgrade of the Wards Island WWTP in the Borough of Manhattan, New York City. The project was devided in phases as follow:
Phase 2:
Included the Construction of Bronx & Manhattan grit chambers and main Sewage Pump Station and Wet Well Improvements.
Phase 3:
Included the Construction of Solids Handling Facilities, improvements on the plant electrical, heating, and storm drainage systems, compressed air system relocation, influent sampling improvements, and PST skimming collection improvements.
Phase 4:
Included the Construction of Plant Administration Building & Pump & Blower Building & Emergency Generator Fuel Oil Pump Station, MSP improvements on speed control system, electrical work, discharge flow metering, discharge boxes, and process air blowers.
Phase 5:
Included the Improvements of aeration tanks, specifically process air diffusers, structural rehabilitation, and biological nutrient removal capabilities. Further improvements included final settling tanks, return sludge pump stations, buried process air piping and new sludge storage tanks.
Phase 6:
Included the Construction of a residuals handling facility, PST improvements that included skimming pumping, primary sludge pumping, and primary sludge pump stations reconstruction. This phase also included construction of a process/microbiology laboratory and storage building.
Phase 7:
Included the Improvements on the old administration building, sludge storage tanks exterior, and miscellaneous wrap-up items.
Construction activities and scope included:
New Sub-stations, Surface Wasting Pumping Stations, repair work of 48 Aeration Tanks, 12 Sludge Thickner Tanks, Pile Load tests including pile foundations for 66” dia Process Air Pipe and installation of 6”, 8”, 12” & 20” ductile iron pipes for new water mains. Also construction activities of Manhattan Grit Chamber & Bronx Grit Chamber.
