NYCDEP Catskill and Delaware Water Treatment Ultra Violet Facility
This $1.6 billion project involved the construction of an ultraviolet (UV) treatment plant capable of disinfecting a maximum flow of 2,020 mgd with an average flow of 1,310 mgd. The UV facility includes a main disinfection building; two forebay structures; 144” raw- and treated-water conduits; and an electrical generator building. The construction work was awarded to more than five prime contractors.
The project was built to meet the water supply needs of the City and lower Westchester County and will comply with state and federal drinking water standards. The introduction of the UV Disinfection Facility will provide an additional disinfection “barrier” against Giardia and Cryptosporidium which will significantly enhance the City’s water supply.
