NYCDDC Edgegrove and Ionia Avenue

Construction of Culverts in Ionia Avenue, replacement of Culvert in Edgegrove Avenue, construction of Chamber (flow splitter) and stream restoration in the Sweet Brook Bluebelt, construction of new roadway in Ionia Avenue and re-construction of roadway in Edgegrove Avenue, Staten Island, New York.

Under this project, work included the construction of Best Management Prac-tices (BMP 2B-2 and SB-3) to minimize the environmental impacts of urban storm water on natural wetland systems.  The BMP work included the resto-ration of existing stream, recreation of a previously existing stream, installa-tion of two culverts in Ionia and Edgegrove Avenues, and creation of a marsh system.

The BMPs constructed: SB-2 (Drumgoole Road to Detroit Avenue) and SB-3 (Detroit Avenue to Jefferson Boulevard) consisted of the restoration of the existing stream and recreation of a previously existing stream. The stream res-toration reduced flooding and improved the water quality of the urban storm sewer. This entailed excavation of trenches and layout of segments of storm sewer and sanitary pipelines. The sanitary sewers to be constructed were capped segments under the new culverts.

Also this project included the construction of new roadway to eliminate dead ends in Ionia Avenue and reconstruction of roadways across the stream to a wider width to accommodate two travel lanes in Edgegrove Avenue.
