NYCDDC Annadale Road Storm and Sanitary Sewer Lines

The project was located in very highly traveled areas in Staten Island. The project area has numerous residential and commercial businesses and MTA bus routes, congested with traffic. The project comprised replacing old storm sewers in Annadale Road, Detroit Avenue, Arden Avenue, Walcott Avenue, Edgegrove Avenue, Carlton Boulevard, and Grantwood Avenue and replacing old sanitary sewer in Carlton Boulevard, Arden Avenue, and Ionia Avenue. The project also included the construction of a Chamber (Manhole) on existing storm sewer at the intersection of Genesse Avenue and Richmond Avenue.

The project consisted of laying of different diameter pipes for Storm Sewers, Sanitary Sewers, and Water Mains. It included Best Management Practices (BMP). In addition, the project involved trenchless drilling, a rapidly growing area of the civil engineering and construction industry, which involves subsurface construction work that requires few or no continuous trenches. The methods utilized during this project included tunneling and horizontal directional drilling.

Some of the project quantities were as follows:

  • Storm Sewer: Total length = 5,000 feet, diameter of pipe 12” to 60” RCP, ESVP
  • Sanitary Sewer: Total length = 7,000 feet, diameter of pipe 10” to 24” ESVP
  • Water Main: Total length = 11, 000 feet, diameter of pipe 6” to 20”, D.I.
  • BMP which included the construction of hydraulic features necessary to treat and convey water run-off in to the Wetland Area.
