NYCDDC Project HWQ1193 – Reconstruction of Center Median on Union Turnpike, Queens, NY:  

We are pleased to announce the successful completion of NYCDDC Project HWQ1193, a capital construction project that focused on the Reconstruction of the Center Median on Union Turnpike, extending from Hollis Court Blvd to 226th Street. This vital infrastructure project aimed to improve both safety and esthetics for the local community, and was completed under budget and ahead of schedule.

Project Scope: This comprehensive project included several critical upgrades:

  • Installation of new pedestrian ramps and Accessible Pedestrian Signals (APS) to enhance safety and accessibility.
  • Upgrades to streetlights for improved visibility and public safety.
  • Installation of new traffic signals to optimize traffic flow.
  • Restoration of bus pads, ensuring improved passenger safety and a better overall experience.
  • 53 new trees were planted, contributing to the community’s beautification and providing environmental benefits.
  • Realignment of left-turning lanes to improve traffic efficiency and reduce congestion.
  • Construction of new curbs and sidewalks, designed to enhance pedestrian safety and improve stormwater management.

Project Timeline:

  • Notice to Proceed (NTP): August 22, 2022
  • Project Completion: August 20, 2024

Budget:

  • Original Project Budget: $5,429,777.00
  • Final Cost: $5,063,212.14 (approx.)
