Elizabeth Train Station, Platform Replacement and Station Facilities
Techno provided construction management services for NJ Transit Design-Build contract on the Elizabeth Train station also known as “Broad Street Elizabeth Station” for the demolition, renovation/rehabilitation, and construction of rail station facilities and platform upgrades. Serving one of the busiest portions of the Northeast Corridor Line, the rail station will not only remain in operation throughout construction, but will be constructed in several phases and multiple shifts due to track, catenary, and signal outages.
This project provided residents and commuters with state-of-the-art facilities, and work included; the installation and construction of new utility feeds, mechanical-electrical-plumbing systems, telecommunications, passenger communications systems, street-level ticket offices, waiting rooms and retail spaces. This project also provided passengers with a climate-controlled waiting area equipped with high-tech train information monitors and message boards, an upgraded public address system, and upgraded security system to include access control and closed-circuit television cameras. Passenger tunnels and the existing elevator, and the addition of new exterior stairs and ramps were rehabilitated which will provided flexibility and additional accessible direct access. New extended, high-level, canopy-covered platforms are now able to accommodate longer twelve car trains.
This new modernized station not only dramatically upgrades passenger amenities, but also facilitates future rail expansion reducing delays and enabling Amtrak and NJ Transit to increase service.
